Fit for Parenthood??

When you work in a pharmacy you get all kinds of questions related to illnesses and aches and pains.  Yesterday was a first for me as this mother did not have a clue of what to do.

"My child has the Whooping cough and I would like to get them injected for this."
1. The vaccine is a preventative and not a cure.
2. Your child is only 5 years old and we can only inject children seven and older.

"What do I do for this persistent cough?"
1. Have you contacted the child's physician?

No, I thought I could treat it myself.
1. You had better contact the physician as Whooping cough is nothing to play around with!

I did not want to pay for another doctor's visit.
1. Well, if you want your child to improve and they truly have whooping cough, it is a small investment for a better future for your child.

Why is it that some people don't have a clue!  With all the resources available today via the internet, smart phones, etc. some people remain clueless.  I don't know.  It is like they want others to think for them.  This is a cruel world and everyone needs to think for themselves!!

Deer Everywhere

I don't know about the rest of the country, but here in Virginia deer are everywhere.  You can't drive down any road that you don't see a deer either off the side of the road or in the distance in a field.  Anymore, you are always seeing road kill of deer lying along the road.

It use to be that you hardly saw any deer.  I guess the state wildlife management of the herd has been successful.  Now the deer are not even afraid of you and will be in your yard eating all the plants.

This buck, was just 10 feet off of my deck in the back of the house.  He just stood there and looked at me while I snapped his picture.  I guess if he did not get a whiff of my scent he could care less.

Even the doe's leave their fawns lying in the woods off the back deck.  I guess I need to get a dog to keep them away.

Stupid is as stupid does!

It had to happen.  Yes, it happened to me.  I just knew my wife would be all over me worse than a cheap suit.  She was but I wish she had questioned me earlier.

Since we flew home from Orlando, changed flights in Atlanta, fell asleep on the flight to Roanoke, was disorganized upon landing and it happened.

We disembarked from the plane, I went to the parking lot to get the car while she retrieved  the check bag.  She met me at the curb and then she suggested we stop for lunch.

After eating lunch we drove home arriving about 1:50 p.m. and upon taking the bags from the car I realized what had happened.

I had left the IPAD in the seat back pocket of the plane in Roanoke.  In a hurried pace I called the airport.  They suggested I call the mother airline, which was Delta.  I did, but they told me to fill out the online form for a lost item.  I recalled the local airport and was connected to lost and found.  I was told that they only take care of things lost within the airport for me to contact the airline.

Oh what a viscous circle I was in.  I recalled Lost and Found at the local airport and got the answering machine.  I left my home number with what I had done and for them to please call me.  About an hour later I received a call from a different officer at Lost and Found.  He said my best option was to call the ticket counter and he gave me the number.  Oh thank goodness someone was actually helping.  I called the ticket counter and was connected to the supervisor but again got voice mail.  Again I left my number and what I had left on the plane.

In the meantime I jump on the computer and accessed ICLOUD to see if I could tell if the IPAD was in Roanoke or Atlanta.  Not having a data plan for the IPAD I could not tell where it was.  My only option was for ICLOUD to send me an email when the computer accessed the internet.  Better than nothing.  Once I got the email then I could scrub the files via ICLOUD.

At 4:10 p.m. I received the call I had been waiting for.  A gentleman at the  local airline was telling me that I had left an Apple electronic item on the plane.  He told me it was going to be turned over to the supervisor and I could pick up at my leisure.  Leisure nothing, I will be there in thirty minutes.
It is good when it all works out.  The cleaning crew found it in the seat back pocket, gave it to the pilot who in turn found my phone number from my frequent flier number with the airline.  He turned it over to the gate agent who gave me a call.

There are still GOOD people in the world!!!   I could sleep good now.

Disney World admission

Wow! It is not cheap to spend time at Disney in Orlando. One must consider that they have to pay a ton of employees(65,000), maintain a bus shuttle fleet, all the roads in the park, and don't forget the buildings and animals.

Disney does keep the parks nice, clean and fresh. All staff are trained in hospitality and try their best to please all guests.

So if you plan on a vacation to Disney in Orlando, start saving now. It will be a vacation to remember where the whole family can be kids!

To bed in Florida, woke up in Africa!

What a surprise this morning when we opened the drapes to the room. Where we had gone to sleep in Florida but woke up in the savanna of Africa.

As you can see from the pictures, the giraffe and zebras were just off the balcony. There were some wildebeest off in the distance and some rather large birds that we were unable to get a picture.

Screen door for onion drying

Since I have three rows of onions to pull and then they have to dry, I kept thinking how to accomplish this task.  In an out building at the farm, I found a couple of old screen doors, one still had screen wire attached.

I decided to drill a hole in each corner and attached an eye bolt.  I then attached four eye hooks in the rafter of a shed roof, attached four "S" hooks and four sections of chain and then hung the door horizontally.

Once that was accomplished I then pulled the onions and then loaded them on top of the screen.  This will allow the air to keep circulating around them to dry and cure.  Once cured this will allow the onions to last for several months.

Technology and Dumb People

Technology is suppose to make our lives easier to live and help with communicating, among other things.  What happens when this technology is in the hands of a not so smart person.

Case in point.

I received a call from a patient, that uses the pharmacy I work in, to check what contact phone number we had on file for him.  I told him the number and he told to please change it to his cell phone number.  I entered the number in the computer.  Since this was a cell number I then asked him if he wanted to receive a text message every time he had a prescription filled.  OK that would be fine.  I explained that he would get an initial message that he would have to accept in order to continue to get text messages.  He agreed and he hung up.

About five minutes later I received a call from the same man asking if we had called his cell phone.  No, I stated, but you should have received an initial text from the company to accept.  Oh, I didn't know that was what that was I thought you had called me.

DUH!!

One thing about it, technology sure does not make some people smarter!!!

All the Hard Work pays off

After picking a bushel of green beans on Friday, a bushel of October beans on Saturday, tomatoes and corn both days, the fruits of the previous months are beginning to pay off.

Picked another half bushel of green beans, dug both Yukon gold and red chieftain potatoes Sunday to trade for blueberries.

I just love this time of year when the veggies come in. You know you have to put up the goods to enjoy through the winter. It is during those cold days of the winter you look back to the warm days of summer when eating the veggies.
