Gobble, Gobble, Cluck, Cluck

On the way to work the other day I just happened upon a flock of wild turkey's.  It was definitely not the drinking kind.  I have been watching this little brood of turkeys from a distance the last few days and this time they were close enough to snap a few pics.

Get real, people

Episode 1:

It seems like the drive through window takes away peoples brain function.  A man and wife drop off a prescription for her.  We always ask what time would they be back to pick it up.  Some people say a couple of hours, some say they would get it tomorrow, but this idiot says, "when she finishes shopping" and drove off.

Does she take a long time to shop or does she knows what she wants and is done in a short amount of time.

Episode 2:
When the power was out and we answered the phone, we could only sell what prescriptions were ready and it had to be cash.  A couple of people even asked if we knew when the power would be restored.  I had to tell them that was up to APCO and GOD!  Who knows such things when the power is out.

My Fresh Market

Just got back from the freshest of fresh markets, the garden.  What a difference a week makes.  Last week there were no RIPE tomatoes and very few green beans.  This week the tomatoes are beginning to come in.  The beans are still iffy and I don't know if there will be enough to make a good mess, let alone canning a few quarts.

Onions, tomatoes, and red and yukon gold potatoes

The potato vines are still struggling to stay somewhat green.  The dirt is very warm and there is still some moisture in the ground but the heat keeps drying things out.  Hopefully a stray shower will come through and soak the ground.  If not, then the ole 250 gallon water tank will have to be put in service.  I would rather it rained.

It happened again only better

I was assisting a woman at the pharmacy counter yesterday.  She was there picking up a prescription for her friend.

We did not have anything there for her friend and her friend was not in the computer system.  She calls her friend and is told she left her prescription at the competitors store.  A little embarrassed, she apologizes and proceeds to tell me a story of another embarrassing moment in her life.

She received notice that a friend of the family had died and the date and time the viewing would take place at the funeral home.  She goes to the funeral home and walks up to the casket.  She said she stood there and said to herself, I don't recognize this person.  She then realizes she is at the wrong funeral home.  So, as not to be to obvious, she take a seat along the wall and acts very sad wiping her eyes.  She leaves after about ten minutes and then goes to the correct funeral home.

If it had been me, I would have said forget it.

Is this FAT!!!

>
Can you believe this is FAT!!

Well, one anonymous blogger called Kate Upton a person with "NO waist, big fat floppy boobs, and terrible body definition.”

Oh my gosh the world is coming to an end.  If this is fat or otherwise then I must have fallen off of the turnip truck!

Riding the Rails

Since we had this past weekend off from work we had made plans to visit our daughter and son-in-law in Alexandria, VA.  Instead of driving the 4 hours and getting in the gaggle of traffic that is always there in Northern Virginia we opted to take the train.

One thing about taking the train is you have plenty of leg room and can get up and walk around to stretch your legs.  With several cars attached you could walk from one end to the other if you desired.  The train also had WiFi and an electrical outlet to charge your electronic devices.

Nice option to air travel.  The train does make stops on the way but the stopping time is minimal and you continue on the way before you realize you have stopped.

Birthday Dinner

Since our daughter and her husband celebrate birthdays in July, we had to have a birthday dinner out since we were visiting.  She had picked Carmines, which I had dined at while in New York some years ago.  The restaurant had opened in D.C. not too long ago.  It is an a la cart fare but it served family style.  Pick from an appetizer, meats, and pasta and you have one big meal.

Penne ala Vodka and Chicken Marsala

Talk about enough to eat.  We also experienced their garlic bread which was loaded with parmigiana cheese.  It was sooo much that we could not eat it all.

Left overs for Nick and Lindsay to finish at home.
As you can see from the doggie bag, it left with us to make the trek to the house to be eaten later this week.

Great place to dine and you do get your fill of good Italian food.

Google Car

While in Alexandria this past weekend, just after having lunch at a deli shop, what would drive by but the Google Street view mapper.  We just stood there in the 100 degree sun and waited for the car to turn around and come back by us.

There we are cheesing it up as the car drives by.  I guess they will have to scrub these images from there street view photos before adding to the Google map.

Mighty Oak No More

It all started Friday evening. That storm of very fast straight line winds ripped through the area. It knocked down trees and shredded leaves from the limbs. Mr Oak stood and did not give.

Sunday night a big thunderstorm moved through the area with high winds and rain. Again Mr. Oak was standing strong but had been weakened by the storm on Friday. All of a sudden Mr. Oak was down.

Mr. Oak had stood on that spot for more than a 100 years. If that tree could talk what stories it could tell. As with all living creatures death is a certainty. It is sad to see a massive tree end up in a heap.
