Kayak's

Since we will be placing the house on the market as of May 1, the person that comes and stages the house, has suggested some things to do in order to make the house show better.  My wife has been working all month long boxing up this cabinet and that cabinet, taking pictures down, cleaning out closets, and who knows what else she has accomplished.

One item that just would not fit into a box is the kayaks.  So we have to load them on top of the car and take them to where we want to be one day, hopefully soon.

After spending an hour rigging the pulley system in the garage at the storage area we hit the road home.  Continue to work on moving and cleaning things in the house since it goes on the market May 1.

Talk about working up an appetite, we decided to go to dinner at Outback with some friends.
Consumed the main course before thinking about a picture of the meal but did get the most important dish,  DESSERT!  Ice cream, New Orleans Donuts, and cinnamon apples.  Yum, Yum.  Now, time for a nap.

Closing Time

Anyone with a job knows that the best part of the job is quitting time. Well, wouldn't you know it but five minutes before time to close the pharmacy window a woman comes up to buy a pack of antihistamines. It turns out she also wanted to get a refill on one of her husbands medications.

What is the medication you to need to refill, I asked.
I don't know what the name is but it is a big white tablet, she says.
Ma'am, I hate to tell you but there are a lot of big white tablets.
Oh, she says.
Can you tell me what he takes it for?
For his sugar, it has been really high the last few days.
Well, that helps, so he has been really sweet lately.
Well, not really cuz he can have a real bad temper.
No, that is not what I meant, but I think by looking over his med profile I know what he needs. He does not have any refills but I can give him a three day emergency supply.
Oh that would be nice.

Remember I said she wanted to buy a package of antihistamine tablets, well she whips out a hundred dollar. The manager had just changed out the cash drawer so that was what was exactly in the drawer. Luckily the manager took the woman to the office to give her change for the five dollar package of over the counter of meds.

Oh, by the way, it was now ten minutes after the posted closing time.

Honey Bees' at Work

I just happened to walk by some Peony blooms the other day and noticed the honey bees were all over the blooms.  They were darting in and out of the flowers.  As soon as one would leave another would drop into the flower to get the pollen to take back to the hive.

You can see the bee has the yellow pods on its legs but is still trying load up more.

They were working as hard as they could.  With it being an early spring and the plants blooming, I am sure they have many choices.  It would be nice to be able to rob this hive but it is in the walls of the house.  It is hard to get to so it will be left alone.  This hive has been active for over sixty years and is still going strong today.

Hopefully this hive can stay strong as other colonies of honeybees have died off from mites or other causes.

Customer to Customer at Drive Through

Had a lady pull into the drive through to get her medication.  This lady is in the beginning stages of dementia, so it takes some patience in explaining things to her.  She wanted to pick up her medication but she had not called in the number to get it refilled.  We told her to give us about 15 minutes and we would have the medication filled and ready for her.  We walk away from the window thinking she would pull off and come back in about 15 minutes.

She continues to sit in the drive through lane when the lady in the vehicle behind her gets out of her vehicle and walks up to the woman waiting at the drive through window.  The woman waiting then pulls away from the window and the next lady in line pulls forward.  This lady is also a regular at the store and she tells us she told the other lady she could not sit there in the lane.

Well, we all got a laugh from that as this lady is one character and will do and say anything to anybody.  Luckily the other woman did not argue with her as that would have been a sight to witness from the drive through window.

Days Gone By

I have passed by this building time after time and always thought what it was like in those by gone days of the thirty's and forty's.   Life definitely did not move at a fast pace, as it does today.  This was style of a gas station from those days.  The overhang protected you as you filled up your car or truck.  The gas pumps would sit on the island just inside the two metal post in the picture.

The current owners have fixed it up and have made it into a nice looking building.  In speaking with the owners a couple of years ago, the county kept telling them to tear the building down as it was an eyesore.

Buildings like this are not built anymore.  It was also a convenience store or small grocery.  You know like one of the current 7-Elevens.

You can make out the name of the owners from those days gone by.  Goad & Horton, Service Station and Grocery.

Oh, just to think of sitting inside drinking a 5 cent coke-a-cola from the cooler.  The cooler back then was a large container filled with chilled water and the drinks just sitting there for one to purchase.  Or the conversation taking place between a couple of men with chewing tobacco in their mouths.

Yes, those were the DAYS!!

Impatient People

Last Friday I was working the pharmacy when the computer technician stopped in to check out the computer server. After running his diagnostic test it was determined that the battery pack needed to be replaced. The technician had to leave in order to obtain the battery.

Upon his return, about an hour later, he had to shut down the system in order to install the battery. By this time the activity had picked up in the store and several patients were waiting, some impatiently. The system was down only about 10 minutes but to this one patient I am sure it seemed like an hour.

Of course her medications was for an antibiotic and pain control. It seems like forever when you have been on this pain med for several months and you just can't function without the medication. Some people need to use some patience!

Plowing the Garden

Hooray!  The rain has stopped for several days and the ground has dried so it is finally time to plow the cover crop of wheat under so we can get ready to plant the vegetables.

Wheat cover crop
The wheat, when plowed under will decay and fertilize the ground, adding nutrients.  Once the ground is plowed, it will sit for about a week, then a disc will be used to cultivate the ground for a smooth planting area.
Good dark soil
The youth from the Methodist Church will be coming this year to help plant potatoes.  They will plant 200 pounds and then help harvest them in the fall to give to the local food bank.  We are praying for a bountiful year.
