Gift Cards

I remember about a year ago I found an item that would save me a tremendous amount of time.  It was at Tractor Supply.  I told my family just to get me gift cards for that store as my Christmas gift.  Well, they did and I went to purchase the item last week.

I used it this past weekend and again today.
Mower jack
It is a mower jack to lift the front of the mower up to allow you to access the blades.  This way you place the jack in front of the front tires and place the pin in behind the tire to lock it in the holder.  As you crank the jack the mower raises up to give you 24 inches of work space.

This makes taking the blades off to sharpen them much easier.  I was having to remove the mower deck to get to the blades.  With four of these mowers to work on, life just got a lot easier.

That is one great Christmas gift!!

Garlic A Grow'n

I posted a couple of pictures in November of my wife and I planting garlic.  Well here it is March and what a difference a couple of months make.

You can see the green tops pushing through the straw.  The row on the right is from an organic gardening supply in Vermont.  The row on the left is from a local Kroger store.  I will post a picture of the size of the bulbs once they are harvested.

It has been too wet to even think about plowing the rest of the garden.  I planted wheat as a cover crop to act as green fertilizer and it will have to be plowed under since it has now started to get taller.

Stay tuned as the garden progresses.

This is NO BULL

Man, how times have changed.  I was scrolling through The Daily and noticed this report of a young cattle rancher in Texas that got big money for his Grand Champion Steer.

It brought back memories of me when I was in high school.  I used to raise purebred beef heifers and show them for my project with the 4-H club in the county.  Although I did not sell my heifers as I kept them and then raised calves.  The calves were sold to finance my way through college. The price of beef was much lower then than now and there was not a shortage as is happening now.

You can see that this steer is well muscled and has good conformation, thereby bringing this youngster some record money.

How about $460,000!  Yes and that is NO BULL!
