Is this a dry hole??

The well driller started digging the well on the lot Friday.  I stopped by to check out the progress during the afternoon and results were minimal.

He said the strata that the drill passed through was producing about one gallon per minute.  I thought, that is not that good.  The depth at that point was approximately 225 feet.  He was planning on going down about another 40 feet before he stopped for the day.

Oh let there be more water than the gallon per minute.  So, I met him again this morning when he got started.  He did stop at 265 feet the previous day.  He checked the amount of water in the well shaft by blowing air pressure down the well drilling pipe to the bottom of the shaft, thus the water rushed out the top of the shaft. He said it was probably still a gallon per minute.  He suggested that the well be drilled to at least 400 feet as that would allow more space for the current water flow to be stored.

I stayed as he drilled another sixty feet and then discussed him stopping at 400 feet.  When I left he had drilled to 325 feet.  The video below shows how he adds a twenty foot length of pipe to the drill and connects it to the pipe in the well shaft.

The update is that he drilled to a total depth of 405 feet.  The good news is he hit another water bearing strata at 375 feet.  Now we have a well producing eight gallons per minute.
