Scaffold Surfing

No, scaffold surfing is not a new sport.  It is a term I coined to describe how you move a set of scaffolding with wheels, from one area to another without getting off the scaffold.

After purchasing four fifty foot rolls of rolled insulation several weeks ago, they needed to be installed in the ceiling of my 30 x 30 building.  The bottom of the trusses and the cross members were twelve feet up, so scaffolding had to be rented.

 I failed to take a before picture so this old picture shows what the overhead looked like.  Before the insulation could be put in place overhead, steel banding had to be installed.  

This was hot and sweaty.  My wife said this should be done in October.  I said you do it when it hot so you can appreciate the comfort the installed insulation will give you.

This was the first portion installed.  It was a twelve foot long by ten foot wide section that had to be rolled out and wrapped down the top of the wall section.  Each section had to be cut to length, rolled up and held together with a bungee cord, placed on top of the scaffolding, then lifted up between the steel bands and then unrolled across the bands.  It did take a little bit to get it to fit just right, but practice makes perfect.

My wife pushed the scaffolding around for a couple of days.  I think she got a kick out of being able to push me where she wanted me.
 

 This is the final product.  I can already tell the difference temperature inside the building.  When it was in the upper 80's outside the other day, it was in the upper 70's in the building.  

For an older guy, I can still do physical labor.   I give thanks each day for my health. 

Becky's First Cruise

In May 2017, my wife and I along with another couple, took a seven day cruise aboard the Celebrity Summit to Bermuda.  We drove to Port Liberty in New Jersey on a Saturday, spent the night, then on Sunday went to the port to board the ship.

This was my wife's first cruise, so to say the least, she was nervous and anxious.  She has a fear of deep water and being out of the sight of land.  It was a little rough the first day with twenty foot swells and of course, lots of walking.  She has been experiencing knee pain in her left leg so mornings were find but by the late afternoon it was getting to the point of unbearable.  


   

It was not as bad as she thought it would be, the walking did her in more than the fear of not seeing land.

 

 

Rube Goldberg

Well, it has been a couple of weeks since the last post, so I wanted to include something a little out of the ordinary.  This was put together a number of years ago but it is amazing the amount of time and effort these people put in to creating this event.  Hope you enjoy.

Continuation of Wood Fence Building

Since using all the lumber the logger sawed for me back in December, I was anxiously awaiting another load of lumber.  The weather had warmed and I just wanted to, as Larry the Cable Guy says, "Git Er Done".   So I decided to have some fun and set the GoPro Hero 4 to time lapse setting.  I told my wife I could still move pretty fast for an older guy.

Whenever you see a person in law enforcement, what do you see.  Most of the times it is a very rigid, straight laced individual.  Well, guess what, that is not always the case.  They are humans also and this video proves it.

ROSEBUD RESERVATION

The Dublin United Methodist Church's Mission trip for July 2018 will be the Rosebud Reservation in Mission, S.D.  This organization is affiliated with Volunteers in Mission, a United Methodist organization

This video, shot by a group of students from Michigan State University in 2015 will give those interested in traveling to the reservation a sense of what they can expect.
